I am a fitness instructor and I teach a cardio step class followed by a yoga class.?
Question by sherry: I am a fitness instructor and I teach a cardio step class followed by a yoga class.?
My boss wants me to teach yoga first and then step aerobics. I know this is very taxing, because I am relaxed after yoga and then to switch gears and do intense cardio is almost impossible. I am trying to find scientific back up. This can’t be good for the nervous system. Thank you

It’s not necessarily taxing on your nervous or cardiovascular system–it’s no worse than going running first thing in the morning after waking up, or doing stretches before a workout. Either pattern allows your body to warm up before the other activity. However, it may impact your energy level and mood, which is just as important for an instructor. Who wants a relaxed, mellowed out step teacher?
Thus, your boss’s suggestion is illogical. Like you said, people want to relax AFTER an intense workout, not before. I have done this combo and would never want it the other way around. Do you have a lot of people who take both classes back-to-back? I highly doubt those people would want them switched. I would have those people speak up to provide a customer/client perspective to your boss and maybe s/he will abandon the idea of switching them.

You might point out that in classical asana practice, the final pose is always Savasana (Corpse pose).
To do Savasana followed by any cardio activity is clearly counter productive.
Many articles on the topic of Savasana can be found on web.
Following are just two, which may help you make your case:
