Helpful books or dvds for learning/practicing Yoga?

Question by omgidk: Helpful books or dvds for learning/practicing Yoga?
Hey,

I have started researching/learning a little about yoga because its something I would like to introduce into my life.

Do you recommend any certain books or dvds?

Thanks, take care.

Probably you should first read Patanjali’s “Yoga Sutras” to get the whole feel for the total yoga experience. (The whole 8 path, of which asana are just one part., is what makes it “yoga” – otherwise, it’s just stretching or exercising.) From there, probably “Light on Yoga” (Iyengar), the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, “The Heart and Science of Yoga” (Perlmutter), “Yin Yoga” (Grilley) – that last one is fairly new.
I’ve never used DVDs myself but my husband has and he likes the Rodney Yee ones – he thinks if you’re in half way decent physical condition, start with the intermediate. Also Sarah Powers “Insight Yoga” (It’s yoga and meditation) and, when he was first starting, he used some of the Yoga Zone ones but has since given them to his brother.
